Captain Cal, Major Garr, Major Wright and another Major were discussing the problems facing them, with the movement of all the vehicles by rail from Hammelburg to the port in Bremerhaven. They looked like a Board of Directors for a large conglomerate and impressed me as a capable group of problem solvers. But sometimes the best ideas come from the "Indians" and not the "Chiefs", and the real sign of a good Chief is one that recognizes that fact and isn't too insecure to act on it. SFC Sawyers suggested that if we attempted to start the vehicles today, we would be trading batteries for coil shafts (due to the very cold weather, -15°). Instead of starting or attempting to start all of the 37 vehicles we had brought from Carson, we took two brooms and swept all of the snow off of them, due to the anticipation of more snow on top of the eight inches we already had. HHC DISCOM moved into the tent occupied by SFC Sawyers, myself and 4th Med. I went to the beer tent and had a few beers with Lt. Stanley and listened to a band from Scotland. It was very cold as there was no heat in the beer tent.
