Building a House - Columns

If you have the knowledge and time, being your own contractor can save you thousands of dollars while constructing a home.

The columns are made of fiberglass and are certified to hold 44,000 lbs. of weight. Setting the columns required four people, two on top and two on the ground. We went four scaffolds high with the scaffolding. From start to finish took about four hours.

The house plans were drawn by W.L. Martin of Tallahassee, Florida. I believe he categorized the house as a "Georgian" style, we prefer to think of it as an Alabama cotton farmer style home.
