hobbyserve.com is a website devoted
to hobbies and hobby activities. You will find information here that
may be helpful in your particular hobby.
Almost everyone that's had a hobby they
were passionate about, should admit to having thoughts of turning the
hobby into a vocation.
Rule #1 - Keep your current job until
the income from your hobby (after expenses) exceeds the income from
the current job!
|
Hobbies: Cars, Guns, Music, Travel and Writing. These are just a few
examples of hobbies that can turn into lucrative, successful and very rewarding
careers!
The most successful people are people that are passionate about what
they are doing. If you really enjoy your work, you will excel at it. Now
just because you "excel" at something, doesn't mean you will be a success
at running a business venture in that field, but you can. The key to success
is to learn from others' mistakes.

One of my current hobbies is web
publishing.
I created this website using Microsoft FrontPage 2002. I started with
a template and built on it. From the time I had the idea of what I wanted
to accomplish to the day I launched the site took three weeks and $125!
The three weeks is a little misleading
and perhaps I should have said approximately 90 hours. I worked on the
site two to three hours each evening, all day for three Saturdays and
about four or five hours on Sunday afternoons. At the end of three weeks
I had thirty (30) pages and felt it was enough of a start to go ahead
and launch the site.
Here's how my project developed:
•From the
idea stage, I went to
networksolutions and found a name that
was available, in this case hobbyserve.com and registered it for a cost
of about $75 for three years.
•Next, I went to
pixelmill.com and purchased a template
that I felt was appealing and would work well with my theme. The cost
was about $50 and it saved me hours of time in getting started.
•I developed my
layout and content, added pictures that I already had and took a few
pictures that I needed.
•Three weeks and
$125 later, I published this site.
NOTE: I already had a home computer
with an internet connection, digital camera, the Microsoft FrontPage
software and my own web server at my business to host the site.

The Beauty of Having a Hobby
Human beings
have always felt the need to explore their talents and demonstrate them
to the entire world. Ever since the ancient times, people have had
hobbies and today's modern world does not make an exception.
We are by definition, human, and it is only natural to be interested in
pursuing diverse interests and activities. No matter if you are
passionate about playing Chess, collecting books, gardening or cars, the same rule
applies: once a hobbyist, always a hobbyist. Leaving the joke aside,
hobbies are a natural and healthy way to express ourselves and the way
we think about the world. And the best part about it, we get to brag
about it.
Let's take the example of book collecting and try to understand why it
is indeed such an interesting hobby. For many people, books do not exist
only for reading. They also represent essential collectors items and
they are ready to pay important sums of money for certain acquisitions.
If some consider that collecting is mainly done for the personal rewards
offered, there are a lot of book collectors who derive a profit from
their passion. Trading different books, especially
first or limited
editions, can bring a lot of money and at the same time significant
additions for an already impressive book collection. Pursuing
book
collecting as a hobby doesn't require as much time as anyone would think
but it definitely requires an immense amount of passion and dedication.
This hobby is not for everyone and there are few genuine book collectors
out there.
And how about gardening? You've surely heard about many people naming
among their hobbies the pleasure of gardening, presenting all of their
plants, seeds and interest for such a hobby. They are the ones who have
an amazing backyard, filled with all sorts of plants, flowers and even
unique trees. For them, gardening offers incredible rewards, both from the
personal and financial point of view. They take part in local and
regional competitions, winning important sums of money and the
recognition of the entire county. Usually, their plants are the most
beautiful and they are the envy of everybody, judges being proud to
award prizes to such persons. Thus, it seems that gardening can be
indeed categorized as one of the hobbies that present plenty of
money
making opportunities. It may necessitate an important amount of time and
certainly a lot of effort but it is completely worth it. Finding rare
seeds and managing to grow unique flowers represent two essential things
for anyone who is passionate about gardening, and probably just as
important is getting recognition from others. Gardening can bring money
but only to those who are true gardening enthusiasts.
We have talked about two of the most popular hobbies out there, book
collecting and gardening. But there are many more other hobbies out
there and a lot of people crazy about them. Some are passionate about
photography, others about rare music collections and many
about cars.
Photography has been described as a hobby by a large percent of the
general population, a lot describing themselves as amateurs. In order to
be called a photography enthusiast, there are many features one should
possess and this is the main reason why there are amateurs and
professionals. True, some have started as amateurs and ended up as
professionals making from their long-time hobby a career. Still, without
the proper instruments photography cannot be pursued as a hobby. You
will need at least a camera and some general idea on photographing.
After that, you can really start developing your passion for photography
into a hobby. In time, you will observe how everyone asks for you to
take photos, needing your skills and talents. Then you can be certain
that photography is a hobby that can also bring you the financial
rewards you deserve.
There are many passionate about music out there but not all of them can
be described as hobbyists. The people who are interested in music
collections can be easily spotted, always rambling through the stores
trying to find rare covers and old albums. For them, this hobby is not a
mere passion but a true expression of the love for music. Finding an
album signed by the artist himself might mean the world, music
collectors being always ready to pay whatever it takes for that specific
album. But how does collecting of old music albums transfer into a
money
making opportunity? Can music collectors derive profits from such an
interesting passion? Of course they can. Just imagine trading one
specific music collection for one that is more valuable, or being paid
for a record signed by Elvis. Sure, you might not be disposed to collect such a valuable collectors item, but you don't know in what
situation you might find yourself. At the same time, you can pursue your
music collecting hobby by starting your own collectors shop, a place
where anyone can find any type of music and some of the most incredible
collections.
Hobbies are for everyone but the level they can reach depends certainly
on the personal budget and available space. It is a huge difference
between a person interested in collecting stamps and one who is
passionate about collecting cars. In the first case, stamps represent a
very interesting hobby but one that is not so expensive. It can bring
financial rewards as there are plenty of valuable stamps out there,
especially if we were to consider those with members of the Royal
Families, kings, queens and many other personalities. Car collecting is
however a whole different thing, being a more suitable hobby for those
who have a larger budget. Businessmen, politicians and popular singers
are all interested in pursuing this hobby, some even arranging old
classic cars and adding them to their collection. Sure, most of them
would say that car collecting is not a hobby that brings money but that
is actually far from the truth. Picture yourself a destroyed car, dating
from the 1930s. The person in question acquires it, takes all the
trouble of finding spare parts and pays important sums of money for it
being returned to the original state. The sum of money invested might by
enormous, but once the car is ready, it values even more, being usually
sold for gigantic sums of money.
The collecting of books, cars and gardening all represent regular
hobbies, being pursued by millions of people worldwide. However, there
are stranger hobbies out there, that still bring unbelievable financial
benefits and also personal rewards. And we are not talking about those
who collect baseball cards, toy
trains, folding knives or jewelry items. We are
discussing about those who collect the garbage of famous celebrities,
used clothes and many other strange items. How does collecting the
garbage of Brad Pitt, Madonna or Demi Moore get interpreted as a hobby?
Well, some might answer to this question in the following way: once you
are passionate about something, it can be described as a hobby. Ok, so
we have established that garbage collecting can be seen as a hobby. But
does it bring money? Yes, and larger sums than one can even think about
it. Even a pen thrown away by a celebrity can be worth hundreds, if not
thousands of dollars.
From what we have seen so far, almost every hobby has the potential of
bringing financial rewards and a large majority of them can transform in
time into a career. It is not so hard to explore your hobby to the
extent that it becomes a daily job, always keeping in mind that you
started the whole thing as a passion. Hobbies represent incredible
rewarding past-time activities, allowing us to explore our emotional and
social side. Most of us are amateurs indeed but putting a lot of effort
and love into whatever hobby you are interested in is all that matters.
One can have a hobby just for the sake of it but at the same time make
it into something rewarding both financially and emotionally.
